What the 46-series names tell you

LG’s current cylindrical product page presents 4680, 4695 and 46120 formats. The family uses a 46 mm diameter with different cell heights. The official page describes high-nickel NCMA chemistry and a tabless design intended to reduce internal resistance. These are family-level descriptions; a released specification is still needed for a particular cell. [1]

A fresh signal from commercial vehicles

On October 1, 2026, LG Energy Solution announced a nonbinding MoU with indiGOtech. The parties intend to explore 46-series NCM cell supply for Flow Ride and Flow Cargo electric vehicles during 2027–2030. The announcement concerns work toward a final agreement, not a completed supply contract or a vehicle already delivered with these cells. [2]

Our perspective: the pack must change with the cell

Larger LG cylindrical battery cells open a different packaging discussion. An engineering team should compare available enclosure space, electrical connections, thermal paths and assembly access. A higher-capacity cell does not, by itself, prove that a finished pack will be lighter, cheaper or faster to charge. Those outcomes depend on the entire design and the validated operating limits.

How to compare with 18650 and 21700

LG 18650 battery cells and LG 21700 battery cells remain relevant to equipment designed around those dimensions. The 46-series is not a direct replacement in an existing holder or pack. Before evaluating a change, obtain dimensions, charge and discharge limits, qualification evidence and commercial availability for the exact model. Treat emerging automotive programs as industry information, rather than an inventory announcement.
